Not medical advice

We rate pharmacies on service and show official prices. We do not assess whether semaglutide, or any other medicine, is suitable for you. Nothing on this site should be used to diagnose a condition, choose a treatment or decide on a dose.

Semaglutide is prescription-only

In South Africa, semaglutide is a Schedule 4 medicine. It may be dispensed only by a registered pharmacy on a valid prescription from an authorised prescriber. Avoid sellers that do not ask for a prescription: products from such sources may be unregistered, falsified or incorrectly stored.

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist

Before starting, stopping or changing any medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist. They can take into account your medical history, other medicines you use and possible side effects. Always read the package insert supplied with your medicine. In a medical emergency, contact emergency services or go to the nearest emergency unit.

Reporting side effects

If you experience a side effect, tell your doctor or pharmacist. You can also report suspected side effects directly to the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA). Reports help the regulator monitor the safety of medicines.

Accuracy

We work to keep the information correct and up to date, as described in our editorial policy, but medicine information, prices and pharmacy services can change. Always confirm details with the pharmacy and your healthcare provider.
